A prime mover breakdown is disruptive enough on its own. When the prime mover is coupled to a loaded trailer, the complexity multiplies. The prime mover needs towing. The trailer and its load need to get to the destination. The driver is stranded. And someone needs to coordinate all three problems at once.

Prime Mover Only

If the prime mover is running without a trailer, the towing process is straightforward. Our boom truck connects to the prime mover and tows it to the nominated workshop. Driveline disconnect may be needed if the gearbox or transfer case has failed, which our operators handle on site.

Prime Mover with Loaded Trailer

This is where it gets more involved. The options are to tow the entire combination (prime mover and trailer together), decouple the trailer and tow the prime mover separately while arranging a replacement prime mover to collect the trailer, or decouple the trailer and leave it secured on site while the prime mover is towed.

The best option depends on the destination, the load, the time pressure, and the cost. Towing the entire combination is often the fastest option if the destination is relatively close. Decoupling and sending a replacement prime mover makes more sense if the load needs to continue to a different destination from the prime mover.

What to Tell the Dispatcher

When your prime mover breaks down, tell us the make and model of the prime mover, whether it has a trailer coupled, the type of trailer and approximate load weight, the nature of the failure, your location, where you want the prime mover taken, and where the trailer and load need to go (if different).
