- Heavy Machinery Transport Brisbane
Moving a 30-tonne excavator across Brisbane is not the same as putting it on a truck and driving. The transport height, the track width, the machine’s centre of gravity, the route from pick-up to drop-off, the permits needed, and the time of day all factor into the job before anyone touches a winch. Get any of those wrong and you end up with a machine stuck under a bridge, a truck bogged on a soft verge, or a compliance breach that costs more than the transport itself.
Delta Heavy Towing transports heavy machinery across Brisbane, South East Queensland, and interstate. We work with construction companies, earthmoving contractors, mining operators, farmers, and industrial manufacturers who need equipment moved between sites safely and on time.
What We Transport
Our fleet handles most types of heavy machinery found on construction and industrial sites across Queensland.
- Earthmoving equipment: Excavators from 5 tonnes up to 50-tonne class machines. Bulldozers, graders, scrapers, and compaction rollers. Tracked machines go on low loaders. Wheeled machines can sometimes travel on tilt trays depending on weight and dimensions.
- Cranes and access equipment: Mobile cranes, tower crane components, boom lifts, and scissor lifts. Crane transport often involves partial disassembly at the pick-up site and reassembly at the delivery point. We coordinate with the crane operator to manage disassembly sequences.
- Industrial plant: Generators, compressors, pumps, tanks, and processing equipment. These loads are often irregularly shaped and need custom tie-down arrangements. We assess each load individually and plan the restraint method before loading.
- Agricultural machinery: Tractors, headers, sprayers, and grain handling equipment. Farm machinery is often wider than standard transport limits, so over-dimensional permits and pilot vehicles may be required. We handle the permit applications and arrange escorts.
- Mining equipment: Underground loaders, haul truck components, screening plants, and crusher parts. Mining equipment transport often involves remote destinations west of Toowoomba, through the Surat Basin, and into Central Queensland. We plan these routes carefully because road conditions, bridge weight limits, and access restrictions vary.
How We Move Heavy Machinery Safely
- Pre-transport survey: Before we move anything, we need dimensions and weight. If the client cannot provide certified weights, we work from manufacturer specifications or arrange a weigh bridge visit. Dimensions determine whether the load is within standard limits or requires over-dimensional permits.
- Route planning: Not every road in Brisbane can handle a low loader carrying a 40-tonne excavator. We check bridge weight limits, overhead clearances, turning radii at intersections, and power line heights along the route. For over-dimensional loads, we obtain NHVR permits and arrange pilot vehicles.
- Loading: Tracked machines drive onto our low loaders under their own power where site conditions allow. Wheeled machines are winched or driven. Each machine is secured using rated chains, binders, and blocking appropriate to the machine type. We follow the National Transport Commission load restraint guide for every load.
- Transport: Our operators hold the licences required for the truck and trailer combination they are driving. For over-dimensional loads, pilot vehicles travel ahead and behind the transport to manage traffic and warn of hazards.
- Delivery and unloading: We confirm site access before dispatch. If the delivery site has soft ground, limited space, or specific induction requirements, we plan for that before the truck arrives rather than trying to sort it out on the day.
Industries We Serve
Construction: Builders and civil contractors move equipment between sites regularly. A road project in Ipswich finishes and the excavators need to get to a subdivision in North Lakes by Monday morning. We handle that.
Mining and resources: The Surat Basin gas fields, coal mines in Central Queensland, and quarries across the Darling Downs all need equipment delivered and collected. We know the routes, the permit requirements, and the access challenges.
Agriculture: Farmers need headers moved between properties at harvest time, tractors delivered from dealerships, and equipment shifted when seasons change. Machinery is often wider than standard limits.
Manufacturing and industrial: Factories, processing plants, and warehouses need heavy equipment installed and removed. We transport generators, press machines, tanks, and other industrial plant.
Service Area
Our machinery transport service covers the Brisbane metro area, Ipswich, Logan, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, and the Darling Downs. For longer hauls, we transport machinery to Central and North Queensland, Northern NSW, and interstate by arrangement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to transport heavy machinery on public roads?
If the load exceeds standard height, width, length, or weight limits, you need an NHVR permit. We assess every load and apply for permits where required. The permit process typically takes 2-5 business days.
How much does machinery transport cost?
It depends on the machine weight, dimensions, distance, and whether permits and pilot vehicles are required. We quote every job before confirming so you have a firm price.
Can you pick up machinery from a construction site with limited access?
We do this regularly. Our operators are experienced with soft ground, tight sites, and awkward access points. We need to know about access limitations before dispatch so we send the right equipment.
Do you disassemble and reassemble equipment?
For cranes and some industrial plant, partial disassembly may be required for transport. We coordinate this with the equipment operator or supplier.
