Our core service
Units rated above 23 tonnes GVM handling semi-trailers, B-doubles, rigids and road trains. Breakdown towing, accident recovery and scheduled transport across South East Queensland.
24/7 dispatch · six depots across South East QLD · we quote before we roll
This is the service the business is named after. Heavy duty towing means vehicles that a standard tow truck is not rated to move — prime movers, loaded trailers, rigids at the top of their class, and multi-combination sets. It needs different equipment, different training and a different way of thinking about the job.
Delta Heavy Towing runs heavy units above 23 tonnes GVM out of six depots across South East Queensland, backed by a hydraulic rotator for the recoveries that need lifting rather than dragging. We cover breakdown towing, accident recovery and planned transport, and the same dispatch number handles all three.
What separates a heavy towing specialist from a general operator with a big truck is usually what happens before the tow: asking the right questions, working out whether the driveline needs disconnecting, knowing whether the route clears, and being honest about what the job will cost. That is where we put the effort.
What we handle
Three broad categories, and we treat the planned work as seriously as the emergencies.
Engine, gearbox, driveline, brake and electrical failures. The bread and butter, and the reason dispatch is staffed at 3am.
Collisions and single-vehicle incidents with police, insurer and TMR coordination attached. Handled by crews trained for the scene, not just the tow.
Planned moves between depots, workshops, auctions and buyers. Booked in advance so it does not compete with emergency callouts for equipment.
Rollovers, embankment extractions and lifts over barriers. Our rotator does in an hour what waiting on a mobile crane turns into half a day.
Heavy vehicles moved beyond South East Queensland by arrangement, with fuel planning, rest stops and relay drivers costed in rather than discovered.
Regular towing requirements handled on account pricing with consolidated monthly invoicing, so your admin does not drown in one-off invoices.
How it runs
The fleet is the reason we can say yes to jobs other operators pass on.
Rated for prime movers, loaded trailers and multi-combination work rather than pressed into it.
Lifts, rotates and repositions a casualty from multiple angles — the difference between a recovery and a wait for a crane.
For when the driveline should not be involved at all, or the vehicle simply cannot roll.
Real ETAs from the closest available unit, not an average pulled off a whiteboard.
Signage and safety equipment carried on the truck so motorway work starts on arrival.
Scheduled servicing, pre-departure checks, TruckSafe accreditation and full insurance cover.
One number, answered around the clock. Give us the vehicle, the location and the destination, and we will quote it before the truck rolls.
Detail that matters
The commercial side matters as much as the mechanical one, so here is exactly how it works.
Every heavy tow is priced before dispatch. The quote takes in vehicle type and weight, distance from the nearest depot to you, distance from pickup to destination, and time of day. What you agree to on the phone is what appears on the invoice.
If we arrive and the job is materially different from what was described — the trailer is loaded when we were told it was empty, or access is not what it sounded like — we stop and talk to you about it before proceeding. Additional cost is a conversation, never a surprise at the end.
Straight answers
Equipment rating and vehicle class. Heavy duty units are rated to tow vehicles above what a standard tow truck can legally and safely handle — prime movers, loaded trailers and multi-combination sets. Using an under-rated truck is not just slower, it is dangerous.
Depending on what failed and where it is going, we either tow the combination intact or decouple and move the units separately. If the freight is time-critical we can often supply a substitute prime mover so the delivery continues while the failed truck is recovered.
From the call to the truck moving is typically 60 to 90 minutes depending on distance from the depot. Complex recoveries take longer, and dispatch will tell you which one you are looking at rather than quoting the best case.
Yes. We have holding yards at several depots, which is usually a better outcome than leaving a truck on a highway shoulder overnight.
We carry full public liability and goods-in-transit insurance, and we are TruckSafe accredited and NHVR compliant. Certificates go to your insurer or client on request.
